Dr. Mathias Schluep has studied Environmental Engineering and received his PhD in Natural Sciences from the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology in Zurich (Switzerland) in 2000. Mathias Schluep has worked in the academic and private sector in the fields of development cooperation, environmental research and general business consultancy at national and international levels for several years. From 2006 to 2013 he has worked as a program manager and senior scientist at Empa (Swiss Federal Laboratories for Materials Testing and Research).
Mathias has provided his expertise in sustainability issues for several cooperation projects with developing countries in Africa (Benin, Côte d’Ivoire, Egypt, Ghana, Kenya, Liberia, Morocco, Nigeria, South Africa, Tanzania, Uganda), Asia (Cambodia, India) and Latin America (Argentina, Colombia, Peru) for national and international government organizations and the private industry.
Mathias joined the World Resources Forum in 2014 as a program director. He is leading the WRF’s program activities related to mining and secondary raw materials. He currently coordinates recycling and e-waste management projects in cooperation with the Swiss State Secretariat of Economic Affairs (SECO) and the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO).
